Rabbit Workshops

  • Saturday, March 4, 2023 – Getting Started – Indoor Exhibit Hall – 2:00pm

    This workshop will focus on the beginner’s basics and some refresh for the more experienced. We will cover how to properly care for your rabbit and what to expect in rabbit ownership. As well as what to expect for completing the project and criteria too follow leading up to fair.

    Friday, May 5th, 2023 – Introductory to Showing – Rabbit Barn Area (Arena if it rains) – 6:00pm

    This workshop will focus on getting started on proper showing techniques, etiquette, and dress. We will discuss how to show based on breed and will offer examples to reflect on. Packets will be offered to take home for reference.

    Saturday, June 10, 2023 – Show It Off – Show us what you know! And let us help you learn what you don’t – Rabbit Barn (Arena if it rains) – 2:00pm

    This workshop will be a hands-on focus on the exhibitors getting some hands-~ experience working with their projects. They will be able to practice working with the rabbits and have assistance from the experienced, returning exhibitors and seniors.

    Sunday, July 30,2023 – Cleanup – Rabbit Barn – 2:00pm

    Barn cleanup and preparation for the 2023 BCYF. Come with your buckets and rags, exhibitors will wash tiles and bowls and prep the barn for fair.

Dog Workshops

We are having 4 dog workshops for the month of May. The dates are May 2nd, 9th, 16th and 30th at 6pm in the commercial building. There will be a professional trainer present to help you prepare for the show. This is an incredible tool to utilize if you had questions about the dog show, needed guidance on training, or wanted to socialize and familiarize your pups with the show location.

If you are planning on attending, please bring:

  • Long Leash
  • Plenty of Training Treats
  • Water Bowl (it will be hot)
  • Vaccination Records
  • All of your Questions!

Horse Clinics

June 17th at 9am English Pleasure and Jumping clinic workshop taught by Charlotte Voghell Trainer/Instructor at Homestead Farms Equestrian Center. Will have open arena for practice after the clinic.

June 24th at 9am Liberty Clinic workshop clinic taught by Amber Barrett Trainer/Instructor at Homestead Farms Equestrian Center. Great opertunety to build your bond with your horse! Will have open arena for practice after the clinic.

July 1st at 9am Showmanship and Trail clinic workshop taught by Allyson Walker experienced in horse judging, extensive showing in AQHA circuits and WVU Equestrian Team. Work on proper Showmanship and Showmanship patterns as well as Trail Obstacles. Will have open arena for practice after clinic.

WVU Extension Workshops

WVU Extension will be holding a series of 4 workshops the last Tuesday of the month at 6pm at the fairgrounds beginning next month in February.

Topics will range from animal selection and feeding, down to finishing and showmanship. There will be door prizes and other prizes if you attend all 4.

  • February 28th – Developing a Quality Grade (Mark Hostutler teaching-primarily for beef, but applicable to all!)
  • March 28th – Small Animal Livestock Market Selection
  • April 25th – Animal Nutrition and Feeding
  • May 30th – Marketing You and Your Products
