Showmanship

Five tiers, broken by age as of January 1, 2026. Senior, Intermediate, and Junior winners advance for Overall Grand Champion Showman.
Previous Winners

Returning winners of past Senior Showmanship divisions show in their own class.
Senior Showmanship
★ AGES 15+ · OR PREV. INTERMEDIATE WINNER
Ages 15 and older as of January 1, 2026, plus previous Intermediate winners.
Intermediate Showmanship
★ AGES 12–14 · OR PREV. JUNIOR WINNER
Ages 12 to 14 as of January 1, 2026, plus previous Junior winners.
Junior Showmanship
★ AGES 9–11 (CURRENT FAIR YEAR)
Ages 9 to 11 during the current fair year. Many exhibitors start here.
Overall Grand Champion Showman
Showmanship judged at 1:00 PM after morning poultry judging. Class 01 (Previous) and Class Overall winners advance to Round Robin Preliminary Showmanship.
POULTRY CLASSES

What you can show

Pullets, laying hens, other fowl, and breeding sets. Note: waterfowl (ducks & geese) are not accepted at the BCYF.

Pullets
Young female chickens not yet of laying age. Judged on breed standard, conformation, and condition.
★ DIVISION 03
Laying Hens
Mature female chickens of laying age. Judged on breed standard, conformation, and production traits.
★ DIVISION 04
Other Fowl
Includes turkeys, pigeons, and exhibition birds.

All poultry exhibits pre-registered through the online registration system.

Mandatory Blood Test
9:00 AM – 12:00 PM at the fairgrounds. Required pullorum testing for all show poultry.

Saturday morning. Birds checked in and placed in cooping at Poultry Pavilion.

Wednesday, 10:00 AM at Poultry Pavilion. Showmanship at 1:00 PM.

Thursday, 8:00 PM. Note: Round Robin rotates beef, dairy, sheep, swine, and goat species — poultry showmanship is judged separately.

Saturday. Birds released at end of fair. No livestock auction for poultry.
BARN RULES

Poultry-specific requirements

Pullorum Test Required
All birds must show proof of negative pullorum test. Free testing offered July 18, 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM at fairgrounds.
No Waterfowl
Ducks and geese are not accepted at the BCYF. Poultry includes only chickens, turkeys, pigeons, and exhibition birds.
No Sale
Poultry is not sold at the Friday livestock auction. Birds remain throughout fair and go home Saturday.
Pavilion Cooping
All exhibits housed in pavilion cooping provided by the fair. Exhibitors responsible for daily care, feeding, and watering.
Health Inspection
Birds with visible signs of illness, parasites, or injury will be sent home.
One Bird Per Class
Single-bird entries in pullet/hen classes. Breeding sets entered as a complete trio or pair.
